As a brand champion for major media and technology companies for the past nearly 20 years, Boyd has consistently operated in the context of transformation. Boyd has served as head of communications for companies including Sony Pictures Entertainment and Participant Media and in communications leadership roles for Fox, AOL and Microsoft.
With change as the norm for all of these companies, Boyd honed skills in ambitious and grounded vision crafting, rapid problem solving, organic community building and ego-free trouble-shooting all while maintaining a great sense of humor.
As founder and principal of Ashby West and as a senior counselor for strategic communications consultancy Westmeath Inc., Boyd currently advises individuals, organizations and companies—large and small—through periods of dramatic or subtle change. She is able to apply years of experience in global brand-building, media relations, and reputation management to companies and organizations large and small, as well as individuals.
Boyd’s recent work includes projects with major corporations such as household-name insurance company Aflac and global data storage leader Commvault. In the start-up space, she helped launch wellness media company Conscious Good—driving marketing and impact strategy and execution, in addition to forging partnerships and supporting fundraising, content acquisition and programming. And, with creative innovation firm Global Brain, Boyd has developed communications strategies for the United Nations and others.
Prior to consulting, Boyd led communications for Participant Media, a company, founded by billionaire philanthropist Jeff Skoll, dedicated to entertainment that inspires and compels social impact. As the company grew in original content development and acquisitions as well as global and multi-platform distribution, Boyd was responsible for elevating the Participant brand and showcasing the power of storytelling to make positive change in the world.
Prior to Participant Media, Boyd served as executive vice president and head of global communications at Sony Pictures Entertainment. There she managed the company’s corporate communications and social responsibility teams, including media and employee relations; crisis management; social media; corporate marketing; as well as corporate philanthropy and volunteerism. She was also a representative for industry groups including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and Creative Future. Boyd initially joined Sony Pictures as vice president of Global Communications in 2008 and helped lead corporate media relations, in particular raising awareness for the company’s environmental sustainability and technology initiatives.
Before joining Sony Pictures, Boyd served as vice president of communications for Fox Interactive Media, which included online properties such as MySpace, IGN and Rotten Tomatoes. At Fox Interactive, she helped build the PR function from the ground up. Prior to that she worked for AOL, where she led music and entertainment communications and promoted the launch of several of the first legitimate online music services and historic events such as “Live 8.”
Boyd began her career in communications at WE Communications (formerly Waggener Edstrom Worldwide) working on the Microsoft account and conducting media and analyst relations’ efforts for technology products ranging from enterprise software to the first eBooks.
In June of 2012, Boyd was appointed to the board of directors for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, serving the Los Angeles Public Library. In 2105, she began serving as a mentor through The Hollywood Reporter’s “Women in Entertainment” Big Brothers, Big Sisters program and on the Los Angeles Steering Committee for the National Center for Arts and Technology. She recently joined the founding board of Boulder Arts and Lectures, a cultural organization supported by the Boulder County Arts Alliance.
Boyd received her Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from University of California, San Diego and completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Santa Monica, California. She lives in Boulder, Colorado with her husband and two children.
